If you already use Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor to write descriptions or answer messages, you can go one step further: let your assistant update your Mercader storefront directly. Ask “raise the price of the clay earrings to €26” or “add Saturday's craft fair in the town square” and the change shows up on your-shop.mercader.app as soon as it confirms.
To make this possible, Mercader offers an MCP server (the standard assistants use to connect to other tools) and a REST API. You decide which assistant connects, and you can cut off its access at any time.
What your assistant can do
- Read your storefront: profile, products, events, links and your plan limits.
- Create, edit and delete products: name, price, description, photo and availability.
- Publish and update events and markets, with date, time and location.
- Change your name, bio, brand colour, logo and cover image.
- Add or fix your links: Instagram, WhatsApp, website, email…
What it cannot do: see your contacts or reviews, change your storefront address, touch your plan or billing, or delete your account.
Before you start
You need a Mercader account with your storefront set up. If you don't have one yet, create your storefront: you get a 14-day trial with every feature, and it only takes a few minutes.
Everything you set up lives in your dashboard, under Admin › AI assistants.
Option 1: Claude or ChatGPT, no keys to copy
This is the simplest way. Your assistant will ask for permission on a Mercader page and you won't have to copy any key.
-
In your assistant, look for the option to add a connector or a custom MCP server. In Claude it is under Settings › Connectors; in ChatGPT, in the apps and connectors settings (depending on your plan, you may need to turn on developer mode). Menus change often: if you can't find it, search for “connector” in your assistant's help.
-
Paste this address:
https://web.mercader.app/api/mcp/me -
A Mercader page opens. Sign in if needed, review what the assistant will be able to do and click Allow access.
-
Go back to your assistant and ask: “Show me how my Mercader storefront looks.”
Option 2: Claude Code or Cursor
If you work with a coding assistant, it is just as quick.
In Claude Code, run:
claude mcp add --transport http mercader https://web.mercader.app/api/mcp/me
In Cursor, add this to your mcp.json file:
{
"mcpServers": {
"mercader": { "url": "https://web.mercader.app/api/mcp/me" }
}
}
The first time, your browser opens so you can approve access, just like in option 1.
Option 3: personal token and REST API
For your own scripts (for example, syncing stock with a spreadsheet) or assistants without OAuth support, create a personal token under Admin › AI assistants. Pick a name and the permissions, and copy it right away: it is never shown again.
curl https://web.mercader.app/api/v1/me \
-H "Authorization: Bearer mk_live_…"
The API is documented in OpenAPI at web.mercader.app/api/v1/openapi.json. Treat the token like a password: anyone who has it can edit your storefront.
Ideas to ask your assistant
- “Add these three products with these prices and write a short description for each.”
- “Mark the raffia bags as sold out.”
- “Publish the Christmas market on 12 December, 10:00 to 20:00, in the main square.”
- “Review my product descriptions and suggest improvements before changing them.”
- “Update my bio to mention that I take custom orders.”
- “Delete the events that are already over.”
A good habit: ask it to show you the change first, then confirm it yourself. Changes go live for your customers immediately.
Product photos
Your assistant can upload photos too. It first asks Mercader for a secure upload address, uploads the image and attaches it to the product. Assistants like Claude Code do this on their own with a photo from your computer; for chat assistants it depends on whether they can work with files. If they can't, upload the photo from your dashboard as usual.
If you are unsure about your photos, go through the product photo checklist.
You stay in control
- Permissions: when connecting you see what the assistant will be able to do. Personal tokens can be limited to “Profile and links” or “Products and events”.
- Revoke: under Admin › AI assistants you see each connection, when it was last used and a button to revoke it.
- Your plan limits: your assistant has the same limits you have in the dashboard. If you reach your plan's product limit, it will tell you instead of going over it.
- Nothing made up: we ask the assistant not to invent prices or details and to check with you before deleting anything. Even so, look over your storefront from time to time.
Start with a small request
Connect your assistant and ask for something simple, like fixing a description or adding your next market. Once you see the change on your storefront, you will know how much time it can save you.
Create your storefront with a 14-day trial and connect it to your assistant from day one.
